Your Chamber in Action: Representatives of the Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce recently met with local MLA's, including three Cabinet Ministers representing the greater Summerside area. Discussions focused on economic development priorities & opportunities for the Summerside area in 2010 and beyond. On November 20th the Chamber hosted its second annual New Members Breakfast, welcoming all 2009 new members to our business organization. Chamber representatives attended the Atlantic Provinces Chambers of Commerce 2009 Fall Conference and Membership Meeting in Slemon Park. The conference theme was "Access to Capital - Growing your Business". President, Rudy Smith and Executive Director, John MacDonald, attended the Provincial government's Speech from the Throne to hear first hand what the government's priorities are for the next 12 month period. President-elect, Blair Dunn, along with other Chamber representatives met with representatives from UPEI and discussed the possibility of increasing the University's presence in the Summerside area with a focus on advanced learning in business management and entrepreneurship. At the end of October the Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce partnered with RDEE Prince Edward Island to host a bilingual business mixer, focusing on the opportunities and value of bilingual services to our business community. This is to accommodate its increasing sales market, having developed a distribution network throughout Eastern Canada, Ontario, and Newfoundland. As well, Oasis Kitchen & Bath Inc. will be moving into the facility in January of 2010. Congratulations to the Academy of Learning PEI, which recently received the Academy of Learning Franchisee of the Year Award for Canada.
